VNA Receives 2013 Community Leader Healthcare Award

Released: 1/24/2013

The Visiting Nursing Association of Western New York (VNA) received the Community Leader Healthcare Award from the National Federation for Just Communities of Western New York (NFJC).

The Community Leader Awards recognize individuals and organizations that make significant contributions to our community through their volunteer efforts and promotion of goodwill and understanding.

Judy Baumgartner, president of VNA and Kaleida Health vice president, accepted the award on behalf of the VNA during an awards luncheon on January 17, 2013 at the Buffalo Niagara Convention Center.

The VNA received the Healthcare Award for going above and beyond in their delivery of care and for their efforts to promote health and wellbeing in our region.

For the past 127 years, the VNA has helped friends, families and neighbors within our community through their broad range of healthcare services. Beyond treating all clients with dignity and respect, the VNA makes it possible for clients to remain independent while receiving care in the comfort of their own homes.

In 2012, the VNA provided approximately $400,000 of charity care and financial assistance to more than 225 patients and their families. In addition, another special program is the VNA’s “Needy Family Fund.” This program, entirely supported by VNA employee fundraising efforts, provides clients with items such as food, beds, household supplies and medical equipment.

Dr. Francisco M. Vasquez, member of the Kaleida Health Board, also won a Community Leader Social Services Award for his community activism on behalf of the underprivileged and his support of local families and individuals in need.

The NFJC is a human relations organization that promotes understanding and respect among people of all races, religions and cultures. They provide a wide range of diversity education and advocacy programs for businesses, organizations and schools.
